The LAT on Gary Webb's suicide
Should we infer anything from the fact that the Los Angeles Times' belated feature on the suicide of investigative reporter Gary Webb, "Writer in Pain," is running in the Style and Culture section? Surely, the life and death of the journalist who pushed the cocaine-CIA connection isn't a matter of mere fashion. Or perhaps it is. The consequences of that San Jose Mercury News series certainly elucidated what is unfashionable in the media: coming to conclusions that aren't supported by official sources.
