Be on the lookout for a pale-faced Grant, Jackson

Minneapolis police officer Rob Allen held a press conference this afternoon to alert local businesses to be on the lookout for counterfeit $20 and $50 dollar bills. At least six counterfeit bills were used in downtown retail outlets yesterday, and two were passed in Uptown stores. Two arrests have been made, though Allen says he's uncertain at this time if the duo was operating as part of a larger ring or if either is connected to the two teenage boys in Rochester who were recently arrested for making funny money. According to that Strib article, as much as $20,000 in counterfeit bills is passed in Minnesota/North Dakota in a single month.

Police are telling retailers to take a closer look at the bills, making sure there is no bleed through on either side, that the lines are distinct, and that the color appears pure and unfaded.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the real money should appear quintessentially American.
