Minnesota's most powerful woman?

Categories: Business
The current issue of Fortune includes the magazine's annual list of the 50 most powerful women in business. The only Minnesotan to make the roll call of powerbrokers: UnitedHealth Group executive Lois Quam.

Locally Quam is probably better known as the wife of House Minority Leader and state attorney general hopeful Matt Entenza. The couple raised eyebrows last year when they contributed roughly $600,000 to Democratic causes--much of which didn't attract public attention until after the 2004 election.

With UnitedHealth's pending acquisition of PacifiCare Health Systems, it's poised to become the largest insurer of seniors in the country. Quam is the chief executive of UnitedHealth's Ovations division, which focuses on seniors. She moved up six pegs on Fortune's list, to 36th place.
