Stribulations: workers choose union representation

Categories: Media

Advertising production workers at the Star Tribune voted to unionize yesterday. The tally was 18-12 in favor of joining the Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1-M.

It's the second group of Strib employees in recent times to opt for union representation. Last year, four other advertising production workers voted to join the GCC/IBT. (For more details see "McClatchy Madness".)

"This is definitely going to send a message to them that the employees have had it," says Mike Blazic, a business agent for the union.

The thirty person bargaining group will now attempt to negotiate a contract with the McClatchy Co., the Strib's parent company.
