Bishop Thomas George Doran, of the Roman Catholic Church's Rockford, Illinois, diocese, has described as seven "sacraments" the Democratic Party's devotion to "abortion, buggery, contraception, divorce, euthanasia, feminism of the radical type and genetic experimentation and mutilation." Police Chief Annetta Nunn is concerned her actions—singing hymns at the funerals of three slain officers, making speeches and writing articles mentioning God—somehow have made the devil meaner than usual in Birmingham, Alabama.

The First Baptist Church of Watertown, New York, dismissed Mary Lambert on August 9 with a letter explaining that the church had adopted an interpretation that prohibits women from teaching men. She had taught there for 54 years.
