Dept. of clarification: A note from Lucas Bachmann

The first e-mail to come in over the transom regarding this week's cover story on 6th Congressional District candidate Michele Bachmann was from her oldest offspring.

In "The Chosen One," a point is made that for all of Bachmann's calls for school reform as a parent, activist and state senator, some have noted the irony that her five children have never attended public school. The reference was to K-12 education.

Nevertheless, 23-year-old Lucas Bachmann sent this missive to Blotter early yesterday, for the record:

Dear Mr. Anderson,
Just got done reading your article. In it you stated that "The Chosen One's" children never went to public school. As a child of the "Chosen One" I remember having attented the University of Minnesota for four years from fall 2000 through spring 2004. If I am correct I believe that the U of M falls under the status of public education. Just thought that you would like to have all the facts, for journalistic integrity.

My problem is that, per Lucas's sentence construction, his belief in the status of the U. of Minn. as a public institution is contingent upon his memory of having attended. [What an egomaniac.]
Graduated with a degree in spelling?
Since when did public school mean anything but K-12? As in "funding our public schools with property taxes" issues? As in questions in "mandated public school attendence"? Furthermore, didn't Lucas Bachmann go to the U of M as an independent decision making adult. The point was where did Michelle Bachmann send her children? Great story! If there is the only nit, then the story shines with excellence!
Speaking of morons, some people seem to think the writers at the citypages have real writing skills! Leftist rhetoric doesn't qualify as journalism. Can I get a piece that doesn't have something to do with complaining about the police or nitpicking about the children of republican candidates? Your angry lefty diatribes are as played as the discussions of police brutality. Hello 1998?
Can we stop going after each other as groups defined by our voting tendencies? Can we stop using three-dollar words to get our point across? Luke was just sticking up for his mom using a sliver of information which could be twisted and used to his defense. That's pretty much it. Laugh at it and let it go. However, to clarify, when one says we need to "improve our public schools" our "make sure our publice schools are safe", they are certainly speaking about K-12. Only someone trying very hard to make a point would imply otherwise. But you can't blame Luke for going down swinging.
If that's all Lucas Bachmann can come up with to complain about, I think Anderson should feel pretty good about his article. Only a moron would mistake the discussion about the Bachmann children's non-public school to mean anything but K-12. Oh, and speaking of morons, if anybody takes the clown Swiftee above seriously, just check out his blog. He should be familiar with turds, as his blog is one big cesspool.
Meredith - you blew my hypothesis! Damme! It's stupid, Meredith, the point Bachmann's son thinks he's making. The topic was not colleges. That's just one of those things that's self-evident; not stating it explicitly doen't change the fact that everyone reasonable knows that. A writer can't always look ahead and predict - okay, what really dumb argument might I have to innoculate myself against? To try to nail GR on it is pissy and is very similar to what the other side does a lot.
My comment came from a journalistic point of view not a political one. If he didn't put it in there, Lucas has a strong point to call him out with. This paper is well known for its shoddy journalism and self righteousness, it is great to see a young person call the writer out on it as well as defend his mom.
The evidence doesn't bear that out, Paul, as demonstrated by Meredith's comment above. I mean, was she really confused by the "public school" remark or is she just splitting hairs in order to win an argument?
It is generally understood by most people that "public education" means K-12, not secondary. Spin it all you want you conservative lying a-holes, I'm sick of this BS and seriously wish all heaven-goers realize their dreams today.
For perspective, Lucas should read GR's scorching expose on the pissing cops that weren't. As I recall, Anderson wrote a fantastic piece of investigative journalism about two Minneapolis cops that pissed on an inebriated Indian man they found passed out in the snow...three pages of in-depth, damning editorial genius....except that GR forgot to mention that both of the cops were exonorated (well before the story was published) when it became apparent the the inebriate had pissed on himself. I was going to fisk GR's latest turd, but then I re-read it and thought "why bother". GR is just another one of the CP's (on) crack reporters Luke, everyone has a good laugh and then goes to bed.
Did you or didn't you specifically state that you were only referencing K12 when you made the statement that Bachman's children never attending public school? Saying it in a rebuttal doesn't count.
Great story g.r. You have nothing to be ashamed of! It seems to me that it is always the radical Christians with shame issues that are quick to project guilt. "Let the one who is without sin cast the first stone." - Jesus Christ. And look what the believers did to him for telling the truth.
Lefties here take note: when a conservative says something pretty dumb, which this is, the more conservative types who watch over this little blog seemingly don't rush in to defend it or take issue with the mockery. The logical contrapositive says that if we do feel ourselves moved to repond to some left-side mockery of or outrage about the right, there is probably a legitimate reason for us to do so. Got it?
