9/25 Just Do It!
Five events this weekend you shouldn't miss
Adults attempting to hula hoop
Mall of America is having a free hooping event and we can't decide if you should go to participate or just to point and laugh. Jean Hooper from Hoop'n with Hooper (this isn't a joke) will be giving demonstrations and classes with her weighted "Wave" hoop.
Toast to this: Oktoberfest
The Black Forest Inn celebrates with a 10-day festival. According to Jessica Armbruster's preview: Deutsch-tacular activities commence this Friday with the annual keg-tapping ceremony, alpenhorn players (think the horn players from the "Ricola" commercials), and Hacker-Pschorr, one of the "big six" beers in Germany. Other activities include burlesque during "Decadent Weimar Republic Cabaret Night" (Saturday, September 27), polka night (Sunday, September 28)
Get your freak on at RenFest
Grab your velvet cape and make like a knight over to the last weekend of the Renaissance Festival. The people watching is top notch. The best are the folks that dress up and don't even get paid for it.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY:
B-boys and B-Girls battle it out... at church
Come stop by the biggest break-dancing competition in the Twin Cities with more than 25 crews competing for a $5,000 prize. We suggest practicing your hula hoop skills Saturday and bringing them to the floor Sunday.
What's better than the biggest pumpkin ever? Nothing.
Pumpkin growers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota will arrive in Stillwater for the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth pumpkin contest. One grower, according to the Associated Press, hopes to take the $1,000 grand prize with his 1,300 pound beast. The state record is 1,258 pounds.
