Convention News: Republican Aint Spent No Money

Categories: Economy

Remember the St. Paul's money making scheme for the convention?

For a whopping fee of $2,500 local bars and strip clubs could extend their liquor licenses until the wee hours of the morning just so the roaming delegates could have a place to partaay.

The news reports went something like this: Republicans like to drop it likes it hot and St. Paul better be ready to capitalize off all their bling.

(If you don't believe me about the Republicans dropping it like its hot thing, just watch this.)

Anyway, as it turns out, the city's idea flopped so bad St. Paul is giving business owners their money back.

The Associated Press reported today that the St. Paul City Council approved a plan to give $2,000 refunds to bar owners who purchased the late night licenses.

St. Paul officials had worked out a deal to reduce the $2,500 fee after many bar owners complained the fee was too high. ...The City Council decision came the same day some business owners told the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce that they were frustrated business wasn't better during the convention.

Maybe the police state surrounding the convention kept people from heading out for a night on the town? After all, no one, not even Republicans, likes to get maced.
