Franken raises $4.4 million in Q3, stomps Coleman in money race

Wow! Way to steal Sen. Norm Coleman's dwindling thunder:

Al Franken's senate campaign announced today that it raised more than $4.4 million in the 3rd financial quarter of 2008. That's the strongest quarter in the state's history, the campaign said.

Coleman announced his less exciting, but still huge numbers: $2.8 million for the quarter and $1.6 million between Aug. 21 and Sept. 30. Franken raised just over $3 million in the same time period.

See the detailed stats after the jump.

Franken's detailed numbers for the third quarter
Raised: $4,400,610.66
Average contribution: $59.38
New donors: 31,594
Raised on-line: $1,553,807.60
Total raised to-date: $15,877,682.45
Cash on hand: $2,782,815.66

Coleman's third quarter totals

Raised: $2.8 million
Spent: $3.2 million during the period.
Cash on hand: $4 million left to spend.
Total raised to-date: $18 million and
Total spent: $14 million.

These numbers are quite interesting. Franken still hasn't caught up to Coleman's total raised, but he is clearly making big strides to beat him out. Coleman also has a lot more money on hand, which means he could have all sorts of tricks up his sleeve. If only we knew what it felt like to spend $4 million in three weeks.

If he stays away from the escort services, Coleman may have enough left to buy an ad or three.
