There are bigger reasons to worry about the economy and others actually suffering, but family visits pull at the heart strings. Poor college students can't afford to fly home for Turkey Day. Thanksgiving road travel will decrease by 1.2 percent despite low gas prices and air travel is expected to drop by 7.2 percent because of 2.6 million fewer seats and high airfare.
The permit-to-carry law didn't decrease crime or increase it like both sides predicted. Instead, it just led to more paperwork for permit offices. But as the first reapplication deadline approaches, only half of the new 2003 permit holders have reapplied.
