Brock Lesnar wins the UFC heavyweight championship

Categories: Notable MN

Brock Lesnar defeated Randy "The Natural" Couture on Saturday night to become the heavyweight champion of the UFC.

Lesnar, a Minnesota wrestling standout, knocked Couture to the mat with a straight right hand, then beat on his head like Donkey Kong until the referee was forced to step in and stop the beatdown at 3:07 in the second round.

"Those were some big hamhocks coming at me," laughed Couture after the fight. "He's a big guy and he caught me with a big shot."

So what's next for the Massive Minnesotan? He will face the winner of Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, which takes place December 27. If Mir wins, it will set up a rematch--Mir beat Brock with a heel hook in their previous meeting. If it's Nogueira, Brock will face a stiff test in a very skilled jiu-jitsu player. Now matter what, the winner will be the new unified heavyweight champion of the UFC. Bring the belt back to Minnesota!
