Southwest flights to Chicago: $69

Categories: Business

We are so excited about any news that isn't related to politics and this really hits the spot. Now weekend trips to Chicago will be much easier.

Southwest Airlines will start flying from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Chicago's Midway in March for $69 for a one-way trip. Northwest Airlines says it will match that price and have 10 or more flights daily to Chicago.

According to the Star Tribune:

That significantly undercuts the cheapest fares now offered to Chicago by Northwest, American and United: $426 one-way and $376 roundtrip, not including holiday specials, according to Rick Seaney of FareCompare.com.

Southwest's service will begin March 8 with eight daily nonstop roundtrip flights to Midway. The $69 fare is for a 21-day advance purchase and does not include airport fees and taxes.

Southwest has totally won us over. Ever since AirTran stopped service from MSP to Chicago, airfares have been painful. Count us as excited new customers.
