Postville raids lead to lack of kosher food

Categories: Business
Remember the immigration raid at a kosher meatpacking plant in Postville, Iowa, this spring?

Remember how replacement workers, many of them Somali Americans, filled in at Agriprocessors, Inc. after Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers carted undocumented workers (who were mostly from Central America) away?

Then remember how some of the Somali replacement workers quit because working conditions were so bad?

Well, the downward spiral of events continues. The meatpacking plant closed in the wake of the raid, and now there's apparently a dearth of kosher meat available, according to the Associated Press.

Great. The whole thing is just sad, sad, sad.
