RNC protesters fooled by undercover cop, Fletcher continues witch hunt

Leave it to the RNC Welcoming Committee to actually be welcoming to other protesters. Well, apparently that was their downfall. Marilyn Hedstrom, a deputy sheriff for the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, led an undercover life for a year to help infiltrate the group to monitor protester plans for the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, according to the Star Tribune. So what does it take to be part of the club?

She went "dumpster diving" at the group's instructions to find food for the anarchists to eat. She cooked meals for some meetings, ran errands, coordinated committee discussions and represented the organization at some gatherings of the protest movement. She became friends of some of the activists.

And she, ironically, even helped on security for the anarchists, who worried that the cops were infiltrating them.

She was accepted because she wasn't the usual and sometimes suspicious young person, other protesters said.

"Norma Jean looked like somebody's mom," recalls Meredith Aby, a member of the Anti-War Committee, a group that occasionally met with the anarchists. "She was treated by the Welcoming Committee as if she were one of their own."

In other RNC protest news, Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher is still on a witch hunt rampage to find protest participants who he says attacked police officers. The video evidence gives police some evidence on who these mystery attackers are, according to the Star Tribune. He says there still could be more charges coming.
