Steve Perry, Minnesota Independent news editor, has resigned, according to a
MinnPost report.
Perry, former City Pages editor, was hired at
MnIndy in February and led the local online site through the election season.
The site's parent company, Center for Independent Media, came
under fire last month when they laid off several staffers and cut freelance budget following the election. Laid off writers raised concerns about the non-profit's intent as a truly non-partisan news source.
Andy Birkey, one of the laid-off writers, will come back to replace Perry.
Here is the CIM statement on Perry's resignation, from MinnPost:
CIM's Robin Marty confirms, issuing this canned statement: "Steve Perry offered his resignation, which we accepted yesterday. We wish him nothing but the best going forward and are grateful for all of the assistance he gave us in establishing the Minnesota Independent."
