Williams Wall suspended
ESPN reported late this yesterday that the NFL is upholding their four-game suspensions toward Vikings stud d-linemen Kevin Williams and Pat Williams, along with four other NFL players. The suspension, sans pay, which had been on appeal since Nov. 20, has been handed down as a result of the players testing positive for the use a diuretic known as bumetanide, which banned by the league. Said diuretic was in a product known as StarCaps, and can be used as a masking agent for steroids.
But don't look for our boys to necessarily miss any field time. According to ESPN's initial report:
"A representative for one of the players told ESPN senior analyst Chris Mortensen on Tuesday that there is a plan to file for an injunction in a U.S. District Court Wednesday morning in an attempt to keep the suspended players active for the rest of the 2008 season."
In addition, according to a Sunday report from Fox's Jay Glazer:
"Sources have told me that [the players potentially facing suspensions] have information that at least two high-ranking NFL members knew that there was an illegal substance called bumetanide in these StarCap pills and didn't tell the players and didn't tell the NFL players association.
"If the players are still found guilty, they are going to file a temporary restraining order in another jurisdiction. They'll also file suit not just against [the manufacturer of] StarCaps but against the National Football League as well as the individuals who withheld this information."
Rumors have begun to swirl that said injunction could be filed in Minneapolis in the very immediate future.
Kevin Williams is a three-time Pro Bowler with 8.5 sacks thus far in '08. Pat Williams, a 12-year NFL vet, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, and is also one of the funniest dudes in the league .
