Carl Pohlad remembered at packed Basilica service

More than 1,000 people gathered at the Basilica of St. Mary's to say their final goodbyes Thursday to Twins owner and billionaire banker Carl Pohlad. He died on Monday at the age of 93.

While most Minnesotans knew him for his high rolling with the Minnesota Twins, the service focused on his love for his family as a husband and father.
The crowd was estimated at more than 1,000. Attendees included baseball commissioner Bud Selig, former players Bert Blyleven, Tony Oliva, Paul Molitor, Harmon Killebrew, Kent Hrbek, Roy Smalley, and current Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, according to Minnesota Public Radio and the Associated Press. Politicians including Norm Coleman and Jim Ramstad also attended the service.

Perhaps the most touching moment was when his son Bob Pohlad described his father's final day alive.

Bob Pohlad choked up several times as he talked about his father's life and his last day alive.
While the rest of his father's body seemed to give up, his heart kept beating, he said. And in his last words to his dad, he tried to let him know that it was OK to go.
"Dad, you don't want to live like this anymore. So go and be with mom. Just say hi for me. I love you dad. More than the world."
