Bruggen collaborated with her husband, Claes Oldenburg, on the sculpture. The Spoonbrdige and Cherry sculpture is one of the most photographed and well-known structures in Minneapolis.

According to the AP, "their other collaborations include a 38-foot-tall replica of an upended flashlight on the campus of the University of Las Vegas and a mammoth bicycle that appears to be half-buried at Parc de la Villette in Paris."
