Wis. man paints face like 'The Joker', attacks ex's new boyfriend

TOWN OF RESEBURG -- Sheriff's authorities say a Thorp man painted his face like the Joker in the movie "The Dark Knight" and then attacked his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend as the couple slept. A criminal complaint filed in Clark County says 26-year-old Cole Vetterkind broke into Jason Benzschawel's home in the town of Reseburg last Saturday along with another man, then started choking Benzschawel as he slept with Alecia Swensen.
CHIPPEWA FALLS -- Charges are expected against a Chippewa County man accused of shooting six family pets to death in front of his children. Investigators said the 33-year-old man had been drinking, and the shooting happened early Wednesday when he rounded up the animals and killed them.
MADISON -- University of Wisconsin medical officials say they do not plan to make a profit by performing late-term abortions even though an internal document lists increased revenue as one benefit. The AP obtained a detailed powerpoint presentation developed by two UW doctors promoting the plan. A slide that contains a UW logo and is titled "Benefits" puts "increased departmental revenue" at the top of the list.
MENOMONIE -- A rural Menomonie man is charged with mistreating his farm animals. Investigators say they found numerous cattle, sheep and chickens dead on Shaver's property. Another 45 cows and horses were in poor health and food bins were empty.
COMBINED LOCKS, Wis. -- A Wisconsin police chief has agreed to let his officers shock him with an electronic stun gun to raise money for the Special Olympics.
CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. -- The parents of a toddler found wandering in the cold have been charged in Chippewa County. A woman found the 2-year-old girl walking down the street alone last week, wearing only pajamas.
