Woman convicted of "milkshake murder" approved for second appeal

Tuesday's five most fascinating stories printed on wood pulp:

A woman with Minnesota ties who was convicted of killing her husband in Hong Kong with a laced milkshake will be able to move ahead with her appeal. The woman, Nancy Kissel, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2005 after being accused of drugging her husband with sedatives in a milkshake.

Possible meth tunnel discovered in Fridley drug raid
When Anoka-Hennepin Drug Task Force and Fridley police searched a home for meth, they discovered a 6-foot diameter tunnel under the garage that ran at least 15 feet deep. Police were unable to prove they were producing meth, but found all of the items needed and digging tools in the tunnel.

A free flight on Northwest really is too good to be true. The flights, sold on Thursday, mostly began in the Twin Cities, were sold on sites such as Travelocity. The airline apologized for the computer glitch and offered passengers the lowest possible price on the tickets they already purchased. Shouldn't they just suck it up and let the people fly free. It was their mistake after all.

The cost of attending the most expensive colleges in the state sounds horrendous to anyone, but add the bad economy and these schools could be in trouble. The cost? $48,039 at Carleton and $42,200 at St. Olaf, both in Northfield, and $44,976 at Macalester in St. Paul. The schools saw decreased applications, but are more concerned that students will continue to drop their enrollment as the economy worsens.

Mayor R.T. Rybak held meetings with city employees and residents yesterday to hear what they all thought could be changed about the Minneapolis budget to save money. Any time you get that many people together, you are bound to be overwhelmed with ideas that are too personal and uninformed. It's good to foster a discussion, but will it actually help? How does a Minneapolis resident really understand the consequences or benefits of shrinking the police force?
