It's official: Norm Coleman will continue the fight to regain his Senate seat.

Following the three-judge panel's ruling this afternoon to consider just 400 absentee ballots in the final count, Coleman's team put out a release expressing their plan to appeal a likely ruling in Al Franken's favor.

Fargo flood: Finding some depth markers

3396978462_38f1e76784.jpg

We are seeing a lot of photos of sandbags and the Red River looking monstrous, but it's hard to understand just how deep this water is in places it's not supposed to be. We thought this photo gives you some good visuals to understand what's happening in Fargo as the flood waters stick around.

This is at Fargo's Oak Grove High School where the water is reaching the tops of flood wall. And this isn't even close to the worst out there.

Check out the big selection of photos over at the Fargo Forum.

Recount trial: Judges order 400 ballots opened

colemanfrankenNEWPLEASEUSE.jpg

The three-judge panel hearing Norm Coleman's election contest ordered a big step in the trial to seat Minnesota's next senator.

The judges ruled today that 400 absentee ballots should be examined and potentially opened to determine if they are valid votes that should be counted, says the Pioneer Press.

Al Franken currently has a 225-vote lead following the statewide recount.

Did the suspect have a gun? Decide for yourself

Categories: Crime
Earlier today we told you about a new lawsuit against the Minneapolis police that alleges that the victim of the police shooting had a gun planted on him by the cop. The police officer who shot the suspect, Jason Anderson, said he saw the man had a gun on him and was therefore justified in the shooting.

The family of 19-year-old Fong Lee now say the gun recorded at the scene was from a previous crime and would've been in the hands of police. Their lawyer, Richard Hechter, said in the Pioneer Press Monday that "video evidence and eyewitness accounts establish Fong Lee did not have a gun at the time he was killed."

So does the video evidence show any sign of a gun? Check out the footage below for yourself.

Fail: Ely announces April Fools' joke a day early

Do these folks look like natural comedians? Nope.
As if a small Minnesota town could get any more unfunny. The little town of Ely thought they had come up with a real April Fools' knee slapper. Unfortunately they announced it a day early and quickly told everyone it was a just a joke. Don't these people know how April Fool jokes work?

In their clever joke, the city pretended for about five minutes that they were applying to host the Olympics and would likely overtake Chicago as the U.S. contender for the spot in 2016. Right.

Today on Citypages.com's 'In The Stream' with TD Mischke:
  • The toaster is 100 years old here in 2009. This is worth noting. But it doesn't change the fact that this is hardly an interesting hobby.
  • Now if you were into, say, bananas instead, that'd be different. That's a legit hobby.
  • Ultimately, however, the serious and sober among us realize that live is short, and if you're going to make your mark, you collect items with meaning and purpose.
  • I just read my umpteenth news story of someone being killed "execution style." I'm sure you've heard the term often yourself. If I'm ever killed, and you're in charge, would you do me a favor and kill me in a style less overdone. I like the merciful speed of "execution style," but it's hardly novel. We all long to have style. But style impresses most when originality is present. So kill me "elocution style." And throw the press a curve ball.
  • What do you have in your head?
  • We're not talking Rihanna and Chris Brown here. I guess this is supposed to be more playful.

Is Coleman a sore loser? The media isn't saying it

colemanfrankenNEWPLEASEUSE.jpg

Minnesota has been without a senator for the longest stretch in the state's history and we are nearly five months past Election Day. And as the recount trial and likely appeals will drag on for months to come, why isn't anyone calling out Norm Coleman for just being a sore loser?

Media Matters explores the question, claiming the media is giving Coleman a free pass to openly stall Al Franken's official seating in the Senate while not calling him out on it. Al Gore was quickly scrutinized and torn apart during the 2000 Florida fiasco and called a "sore loser" nearly every day by the mainstream media.

When will the media get fed up with the Republican's blatant stalling game?

Aside from the occasional foray into naked batting practice, Mike Redmond has long being recognized as a fine teammate, a sound bench player, and an above average hitter - all of which are true.  But Redmond, who will turn 38 in May and has never played 90 games in any of his 11 MLB seasons, needs to be a little less Red Dog and a little more Mad Dog to bark orders behind the dish for what may be an extended stay until Joe Mauer fully recovers from his back ailment.

Is he up to it?
