Bill would make Keillor's Lake Wobegon a reality as a Minn. county

Minnesota's unhealthy obsession with Garrison Keillor might have just gone too far. A group of St. Cloud legislators have announced legislation that would combine Stearns and Benton counties and the northern part of Sherburne County. They are calling it "Lake Wobegon," which is the name of the fictional town created by Keillor.

The legislation will be announced this morning by Sen. Tarryl Clark, DFL-St. Cloud, and Reps. Larry Haws, DFL-St. Cloud, and Larry Hosch, DFL-St. Joseph, says the Star Tribune.

You might know Lake Wobegon from the classic welcoming message Keillor repeats: "Welcome to Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking and all the children are above average."

Well now that could refer to our favorite city in Minnesota: St. Cloud.

St. Cloud is the only Minnesota city situated in three counties. This legislation would combine the counties to keep St. Cloud in only one. But it might not be called "Lake Wobegon" in the end. Any new county would get a permanent name from its residents. Bachmann County, perhaps?
