Klobuchar is thrifty too: She shops at Target!

Elected officials are living the tough life these days. You might be out of a job or having your salary and benefits slashed, but boy do those Senators have it hard. How could they possibly live on $174,000 a year? How do they even have enough to eat?

Perhaps the hardest part of their lives these days: hiding their money. "Nobody wants to be a poster child for conspicuous consumption -- either personally or professionally -- when so many people are suffering," Politico says.

As an example of the rough lives of our representatives at the Capitol, Politico featured our very own Sen. Amy Klobuchar. And by golly, she's pinching pennies by shopping at Target, her very own hometown's business!

More from Politico:
Sen. Amy Klobuchar said she's saving money by shopping at bargain stores or just doing without.

Klobuchar, a Democrat, said she's frequenting Target -- which is based in her home state of Minnesota -- and eyeing the discount stores for most of her future purchases. The new chest of drawers she needs will likely be found on a trip to IKEA next weekend.

There will be no replacement for her 10-year-old Saturn, and her summer vacation will very likely be spent close to home with her husband.

"Mostly, we're just not getting a lot of new things," she said.
Smart one, Klobuchar. A chance to look like one of us and give a shout out to a struggling Minnesota business. We couldn't have done it better ourselves.

So is she really living the tough life? You can check out Klobuchar's financial disclosures (or a decent estimate) over at LegiStorm.
