RNC snitch found guilty of assault

When Andrew Darst, 30, kicked open the front door of a Minnetrista home in the wee hours of Jan. 11, he  "wasn't comfortable" with the two dudes accompanying his wife, as he would later tell police. So he beat shit out of them (the two dudes).

Darst, whose loyal snitching on behalf of the FBI led to the arrests/charging of The RNC 8, was subsequently charged with five counts of various douchebaggery, including assault. Today he recieived the verdict.

From the Strib:

Andrew Darst... was found guilty of third-degree damage to property, a gross misdemeanor, and two counts of assault in the fifth degree, which are misdemeanors. He was found not guilty of two counts of first- and second-degree burglary, both felonies.

Hennepin County District Judge Dan Mabley issued the verdict in a six-page written report and then briefly summarized his decision during a short court hearing this afternoon. Darst will be sentenced on May 18.

So what might this mean for The RNC 8, who have been watching this trial closely?

Former Ramsey County Attorney Tom Foley, who has not been involved in the case, said last month that Darst's own criminal case could potentially undermine his credibility as a witness for the prosecution of individuals accused of violence.
