Majority of Minnesotans want Coleman to concede, poll says

Norm Coleman and Al Franken are in statistical dead heat (about 42 percent each) based on the Election Day vote percentage, but now 63 percent of voters think Coleman should concede ASAP.

That number comes from a new Public Policy Polling survey (via) released today. Keep fighting Coleman. Your support is dropping quickly. That 63 percent represents "almost all of Franken and Dean Barkley's supporters, as well as a third of respondents who voted for Coleman last fall," the poll says. Voters were also asked if Gov. Tim Pawlenty should sign Franken's election certificate immediately which would certify him the winner. About 56 percent of those surveyed said yes.

While Democrats and Republicans predictably have different views about the various issues related to resolving the election, it's notable that independent voters fall on Franken's side with 61% thinking Coleman should concede and 54% saying Franken should be certified and seated.

"With the ruling of the three judge panel it appears that most Minnesota voters are now ready for this election be over," said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. "Folks seem to think that Franken is the rightful winner and that he should be allowed to take his seat instead of the process being dragged out further."

The survey was conducted April 14-15 with 805 Minnesota voters. There was a 3.5 percent margin of error.
