St. Thomas student goes missing along Mississippi Boulevard
After drinking at a party in St. Paul, University of St. Thomas freshman Daniel Zamlen decided to leave. He was on the phone with a friend when he said "Oh, my God. Where are you? Help." and the phone went dead. Police, family and friends have been scouring the area in search of the student who is a type-1 diabetic and wears an insulin pump. They think he could be in a coma.
Fourth-grader dies in swimming accident during class trip
A Montevideo fourth-grader died after he was found unresponsive in a swimming pool during a class trip. He died at Hennepin County Medical Center after being transferred there on Friday. Eddie Ojer was with other Maria L. Sanford Elementary School students on a reward day class outing Friday at the Kilowatt Center in Granite Falls.
Elderly and handicapped lose ride service due to poor economy
Yet another depression downer: The American Red Cross dropped its transportation service in the east metro due to their economic situation. Red Cross provided rides for the elderly and handicapped to doctor appointments and other errands they were unable to get to themselves. The Red Cross is trying to cut back their services to focus on their main missions of disaster response, first aid and CPR training and international programs. Oh yeah, and stranding people in their homes.
Parents visit jailed American-Iranian journalist
Roxana Saberi, an American-Iranian journalism who has been in a Iranian jail for two months, had a visit from her parents for the first time today. Saberi grew up in Fargo and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead. She is allegedly in jail for working in Iran after her press credentials expired.
Minneapolis expected to respond to gun-planting allegations this week
Minneapolis officials said they will be responding today or tomorrow with a formal response to the federal lawsuit alleging police of planting a gun on a victim shot and killed by police in a 2006 incident. We are looking forward to their latest excuses in a case that seems to have mounting evidence against them.
