Science Museum of Minnesota among 7 Imax Wonders of the World

According to Gizmodo, the Science Museum of Minnesota is among the seven best places to watch an IMAX movie.

The St. Paul mechanical marvel shares the honor with diverse structures from France to Australia, but was the only IMAX theater from the United States to be so honored by the popular tech blog.

The feature that separated Minnesota's IMAX theater from the rest of the American competition was it's use of technology. "It was the pioneer of the convertible screen, which features both a flat screen and a dome that can be rotated to show made-for-domes IMAX movies known as Omnifilms," Gizmodo writes.

Can't Wait: Coleman's Minn. Supreme Court appeal starts Monday

colemanfrankenNEWPLEASEUSE.jpg
Take a couple deep breaths of fresh air this weekend and enjoy the outdoors before our lives get painful again. We've had such a great week or two with little to no news about these wanna-be senators.

Norm Coleman's appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court starts Monday to try and overrule the three-judge panel's ruling that Al Franken came out ahead in November. Franken is currently ahead by 312 votes.

Five of the Supreme Court justices will hear the case. Coleman plans to argue equal protection in his case because he claims all votes were not considered under the same criteria.

We can only hope this is the beginning of the end in the terribly drawn-out race for Minnesota's U.S. Senate seat. But if Coleman fails with his case again, he could choose to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Please save us.

If you are interested in watching the drama unfold, The Uptake will have live coverage starting Monday morning. Tune in here.

New research out at the University of Minnesota shows how you can play tennis through ESP. Sweet!

Researchers are using mind control technology to show how a person can play a Pong-like game with their mind. The research could help create ways for people with artificial limbs to move them through mind control. Other possible developments include treatment of epilepsy by creating better images of the brain.

Criminals beware: You can be busted if you or one of your buddies posts a Facebook photo of you doing something illegal that violates your restraining order. Like holding a gun all macho-like.

A 20-year-old Wisconsin man was arrested after his ex-girlfriend reported a photo posted on Facebook that showed him holding a shotgun. His domestic abuse restraining order doesn't allow him to possess a firearm.

The photo was uploaded to Facebook Wednesday, but there was no information on posted it.

The photo led police to his home where they found a loaded shotgun. Whoops. The man claims he didn't know about the shotgun rule. No charges have been filed in the case.

Many politicians think Twitter is the new essential tool in their never-ending attempt to spin political mayhem and "connect" with constituents. They probably didn't think it was going to cause news when they started making snarky comments on their Twitter accounts.

And now two GOP Minnesota House members have filed an ethics complaint against a DFL member for some tweets that might have gone too far. If you have a stick up your hoo-ha.

Boy, 2, dies after holiday weekend crash that killed four others

A 2-year-old boy seriously injured in a Memorial Day weekend car crash died this morning from injuries sustained in the drunk-driving accident. He is now the fifth person, including his mother, to die in that crash.

The driver blamed for the crash told police he was too drunk to drive.

Carter Newell, of Rochester, died this morning in Rochester. His death makes the holiday weekend total of people fatally injured on Minnesota roads up to at least 13, making it the state's deadliest holiday weekend since 1996.

Al Franken's comedy partner reveals scandalous new information

franken2.jpg

Al Franken was once part of a mediocre comedy team called Franken and Davis. Recently Franken's onetime partner, Tom Davis, came out with a tell-some book, Thirty-Nine Years of Short-Term Memory Loss, that describes their early years in comedy clubs, their stint as staff writers for Saturday Night Live, and the reasons behind their breakup. Now that Franken is about to potentially be Minnesota's next possible senator, maybe, we scoured the book looking for salacious details that could become political issues. But apparently, even in the heady, drug-infested '70s and '80s, Franken was a bit of a stick-in-the-mud.

Here are the five worst things we learned about our likely new senator:
  • He once smoked dope with Robin Williams at Lake of the Isles
  • He had a job at Sears in which he dressed up as Winnie the Pooh
  • He and Davis once wrote a comedy skit about the Nazi death camp at Dachau
  • He attended a voodoo ceremony in Haiti
  • On a beach in Jamaica, he spent an hour teaching a beautiful woman to throw a Frisbee before realizing she was a hooker
