Another Minn. Craigslist criminal sentenced to prison

Categories: Crime
On the same day that the City Pages feature on the Craiglist killers ran in our print edition, another Craigslist criminal is sent to the clinker.

Eric C. Thorsen, 26, of Eagan was sentenced to five years and one month today for advertising for sex partners on Craigslist and then stealing their identification. His lady accomplice, Amy Ruth Bergquist, 31, was sentenced in February to three and a half years.

The couple would place personal ads on the classifieds site asking for other adults to join them for sex. They would meet the strangers in hotel rooms or private homes where they would proceed to steal their identification.

More from the Star Tribune:
According to their plea agreements, both Bergquist, a licensed practical nurse, and Thorsen, who is unemployed, admitted that they illegally had the identification and intended to use them unlawfully. Thorsen additionally admitted to stealing mail from other people's mailboxes, and also stealing identification to buy merchandise. He also used the documents to steal money from other people's bank accounts. Bergquist admitted to helping Thorsen.

Both also admitted that the plot involved defrauding banks of between $30,000 and $120,000.
