Miami Herald editor, former Star Tribune editor to head Pulitzer board

Miami Herald Executive Editor and former Star Tribune Editor Anders Gyllenhaal is the new chairman of the Pulitzer Prize Board, according to the Associated Press.

Prior to his job at the Star Tribune, Gyllenhaal was a reporter and editor at the Miami Herald and executive editor of The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. He took the Strib job in 2002 and returned to Miami in 2007.

The Herald has won two Pulitzer Prizes during his tenure. He has been a member of the Pulitzer board since 2001. He replaces Richard Oppel, former editor of the Austin American-Statesman.

The board makes final decisions on the annual awards given out by Columbia University.
