Tribune Company bailout: Target Corp?

Can Target save the Tribune Company? Not really, but they'll likely be giving the struggling media giant a little boost when they open their two-day Target "pop-up" store in the ground level of their building this week.

Target announced a temporary store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue in one of the ground level spaces of the Tribune Tower at 445 N. Michigan. This temporary set up, open May 7-9, is the first time Target has used one of its pop-up stores in the Midwest. The space for the pop-up store was previously occupied by The McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum, which opened in April 2006. They announced their departure from the space in January of this year.

Gary Weitman of the Tribune Company declined to comment on the deal with Target, but noted that it has been a retail space in the past. Hammacher Schlemmer used to occupy the space.

A call to Target Corporation's headquarter press office in Minneapolis has yet to be returned.

The Minneapolis-based retailer has had multiple successful pop-ups in Manhattan, generally designed to generate buzz around Target, its products and some of its designers.

The Chicago pop-up store, called Bullseye Bazaar, will open May 7-9 on the ground floor of the Tribune Tower at 445 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

In addition to showcasing some items that are usually only sold on Target.com, the bazaar will feature more than a dozen Target designers including Sonia Kashuk, Mossimo, Thomas O'Brien and Michael Graves as well as some limited-time collaborations with Tracy Feith, Loomstate, Miss Trish of Capri and Erickson Beamon.
