Franken wins: What's next?

The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in favor of Al Franken today, unanimously ruling that Franken received the most votes and should be awarded the election certificate. Franken needs the election certificate to be officially seated by the U.S. Senate.

Norm Coleman just spoke to reporters, announcing he conceded and spoke to Franken shortly after the decision to congratulate him on winning the U.S. Senate seat.

So what's next?

Coleman also spoke to Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who will be the next person of authority in Franken's path to the Senate. Pawlenty and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie must sign Franken's election certificate in order for him to be formally seated by the Senate.

Coleman said he spoke to Pawlenty today after the ruling about his decision to concede.

Pawlenty released a statement after Coleman's decision and said he will sign the election certificate today.

The Senate is currently in recess for the Fourth of July holiday, but Franken will likely be sworn in as Senator next week.
