Minn. Supreme Court's U.S. Senate ruling likely to arrive today

Politics in Minnesota reported late yesterday that the Minnesota Supreme Court is likely to rule on Norm Coleman's appeal for the state's U.S. Senate seat by the end of the business day.

PIM says they have heard from two sources "on different sides of the Minnesota U.S. Senate race recount scene" that the ruling should come by 4:30 p.m. today. MinnPost has a conflicting report.

PIM was the first to note this as a "rumor/scoop" late yesterday via Twitter. At this point we now believe it is "highly likely" to happen; in fact, based on our sources we'd be surprised if it doesn't. While earlier estimates of 30 days of deliberation got floated, we also heard from someone close to the justices that they would like to move things along quickly, so it's more plausible that things are getting tied up today.

The end of this race could be in sight today, but both candidates have the option to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court based on the ruling. It is likely the winner of this ruling will receive an election certificate to begin serving in the Senate as the fight continues.

MinnPost is reporting that their sources with one campaign had not heard of a ruling coming today.
