Just like in the extremely cold winter months, Salvation Army is providing shelter to homeless people, this time to avoid the extreme heat this week. Their Harbor Light Shelter, located at 1010 Currie Ave. in downtown Minneapolis will give homeless people a place to cool down and get some cold water.

The air-conditioned chapel is open to anyone and officials say they are expecting a lot of visitors.

Starting Sunday, their new 6,000 square-foot chapel will open, providing even more room for people to catch some shade indoors.

The Twin Cities area is under a heat warning until tonight, with a heat index that will make it feel more like 100 to 105 degrees with high humidity.
