Savage man charged after police find 130 pounds of marijuana in his home

Categories: Drugs
Police were quite thrilled when they searched the Savage home of Bao Vu Nguyen, 34, back in April and found 130 pounds of pot stashed there. The drugs were valued at about $455,000 wholesale, police say. The pot was grown in Canada and brought across the border in Detroit before arriving in the Twin Cities.

Now Nguyen has a second-degree controlled substance charge against him. If he is found guilty of the crime, he could be in jail for 25 years and pay up to $500,000.

More from the Star Tribune:
The task force received a tip April 6 by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that a shipment of marijuana from Detroit would be arriving in Shakopee. Authorities began surveillance of a vehicle, which was driven to a home on Shoreside Circle in Savage.

The task force served a search warrant on the home early in the morning of April 7, where officials discovered the shipment containing 100 pounds of marijuana, along with an additional 30 pounds already in the home. Authorities estimated the wholesale value of the drugs at $455,000. It was intended for distribution in the Twin Cities metro, officials said.
