Cleaning a 3,000 pound sunburst is no easy task. The Minneapolis Institute of Art's sculpture is 10 feet tall and has 1,000 individual pieces of glass and 100 feet of neon tubing. The sculpture is cleaned once a year and it takes about three hours to complete.

Pawlenty calls out Chris Matthews's 'Man-Crush' on Obama

Fresh off his speech in San Diego, Governor Tim Pawlenty began testing out quotes on the national media. One of the very best of his quotes called out MSNBC's Chris Matthews. It was a bit of rhetorical magic, saying that the motor mouthed news man's crush on Obama is the only thing rising faster than government spending.

Minnesota Public Radio's Than Tibbetts pointed us to this great story and video out of Cook, Minn. Goldie Knapp, an 84-year-old great grandma, wanted to go skydiving before she died. And this month, she jumped out of a plane and it looks like she had the time of her life.

There's even video proof after the jump.

Mischke show notes: July 31, 2009

Today on Citypages.com's 'In The Stream' with TD Mischke:

Pretty much planning on skippin' the light fandango this afternoon. Full bore.
I'll probably turn a couple cartwheels, big time, 'cross the floor
But avoid gettin' seasick when the crowd calls for more

That's called a little teaser, folks.
Gives you a cryptic hint as to the subject matter in today's Wild Stream.

You with me, so far?
Or is your room humming harder,
and your ceiling flying away?

No worries. Just call out for another drink,
and let some waiter bring a tray

Just call me Miller Mischke today, as I tell my tale,
and allow your ghostly face to turn a whiter shade of pale

Garrison Keillor's St. Paul bookstore, "Common Good Books" was hit by burglars early Thursday morning. Two bad stories related to our Prairie Home Companion in one week? What's happening to idyllic Lake Wobegon?

A man and woman were caught on surveillance video entering the store around 1:17 a.m. They broke into Nina's, a coffee shop in the same building and then came downstairs to the bookstore. They got in by smashing a front door window and escaped with $3,000.

The damage to the building adds another $700-800 in loss for the store.

We've got the details below.

A Minneapolis woman was craving a new wardrobe so badly that she forced her two daughters to help her steal from downtown Minneapolis department stores, police say. That's one way to teach really great family values.

Michelle Jordan allegedly used her 14-year-old and 3-year-old daughters as accomplices. She had been stealing hats, jewelry, and jeans from Macy's and Sak's Fifth Avenue, according to KSTP.

The 14-year-old would stand as the lookout and she would stuff items in the 3-year-old's stroller. Then the 14-year-old would push the stroller out of the store, police said.

Security cameras show her stealing almost $1,000 worth of items at Sak's alone.

Check out the KSTP video report below.

Riding with Cyclopath-- The online bicycle route planner

Categories: Bicycle
Picturesweet2.jpg
There's always a great hope that someday cyclists can plan a trip online. Think GoogleMaps. But few programs exist and the ones that do don't have the ability to change, say, if the street is under construction or a rider finds the bike lane abuts a heavy traffic street.

Yet we just stumbled upon Cyclopath, a wiki-powered bike trip planner that seems to have it right. Even if it is still in it's beta form.

Minn. wedding couple's bad song choice benefits Sheila Wellstone Institute

Categories: Notable MN

It was only a matter of time before someone besides Chris Brown got some serious bank off the Minnesota wedding couple's epic dance down the aisle that turned into a YouTube sensation. The video has nearly 13 million views since last week when the couple posted it and now Kevin Heinz and Jill Peterson are hoping their video's popularity can help a good cause too.

Many people questioned their choice of Chris Brown's "Forever" for their coordinated dance entrance at the church because Brown beat his then-girlfriend Rihanna until her face was black and blue. So the couple is asking fans of the video to donate money to help stop domestic violence.

Their new wedding site directs people to donate to the Sheila Wellstone Institute. We're proud of their choice to support a great local organization and counter Brown's ridiculous fame.

They chose to support domestic violence "due to the circumstances surrounding the song in our wedding video," their site says.

Check out their note and donation info below.
