Girl, 14, raped during bike ride on Lake Wobegon Trail

​ One man's horrific actions have tarnished our good perceptions of Garrison Keillor's quirky Lake Wobegon. This isn't supposed to happen there, or anywhere for that matter.

A 14-year-old girl was raped while riding her bike on the Lake Wobegon Trail Tuesday near Melrose, according to the Stearns County sheriff's office.

The girl says a man on a bike forced her into a ditch on the trail and raped her. The man took off when another cyclist rode by. The girl used that person's cell phone to call police.

An officer found the suspect, but was unable to arrest him. He ran into a cornfield and was arrested when he came back out.

The 21-year-old is in Stearns County Jail and KSTP is reporting that he has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
