Nationwide defense cuts could lead to cuts at BAE in Fridley

The BAE Systems campus in Fridley could see job reductions in the near future after U.S. Department of Defense cuts.

The Department of Defense cut the manned ground vehicle spending in June. That included a cannon that BAE was constructing in Fridley, which led to 300 idled workers there. There are about 1,450 employees in Fridley.

More from Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal:
Kelly Golden, a BAE company spokeswoman declined to detail the work stoppage, but said BAE placed about 650 employees around the country on paid leave as a result of the stop work order."As a result, we are anticipating a reduction in force, but at this point we don't have any further details on what the number would be or even the locations of where they would be," she said.

The company also is offering a voluntary buyout for some of its employees.
