Target, Dairy Queen say, "What recession?"

Apparently, executives at two major Minneapolis-based companies haven't gotten the memo about the recession--they're expanding as if it didn't exist. This week alone, discount retailer Target is opening 23 stores nationwide, according to the Business Journal, and is on track to debut 76 stores this year. Recently, Target reported that its fiscal first-quarter profits were more than half a billion dollars (down a bit from last year, but not bad coin in a tanking economy).

Meanwhile, the ice cream giant Dairy Queen is opening a blizzard of stores in China. DQ cut the ribbon on its 200th store in China this week and says it plans to open a megalomaniacal 500 more Chinese branches in the next five years, reports the Shanghai Daily. It's a big step forward in America's master plan to make the rest of the world as fat as we are.
