Kenechi Udeze, former starting defensive end for the Vikes, announced today that his football days are over, at least for the foreseeable future.

Udeze, who led the team in sacks in 2007, sat out last season after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The former USC standout underwent a successful bone marrow transplant about a year ago, which set the stage for a comeback; he attended practices and workouts throughout the summer.

But a return to the gridiron this season proved to be impossible. Although in remission, the cancer has made it impossible to get into the kind of shape needed to compete as a world-class athlete. Yeah, we know-- a total wimp.
