Best Buy admits Glenn Beck is an idiot, distances company from him

Best Buy has finally caught up with most people in America and realized it's flat-out embarrassing to be connected to Fox News's Glenn Beck. The electronics corporation, along with many other high-profile companies, pulled their advertising from the controversial show after Beck called President Obama a racist.

Although Best Buy says they never actually advertised during his show, they did contact Fox to ensure their advertising didn't run during his time slot.

Color of Change, an African-American online political organization, has put the pressure on major companies to drop advertising from the show following Beck's remark. (via)

In case you missed Beck's remark, here is the clip:

In the latest list of companies dropping Beck, Best Buy is joined by Wal-Mart, CVS, and Travelocity. That brings the full list up to 20 in the last two weeks including ConAgra, GEICO, Men's Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance.

From the Color of Change release:
"We are heartened to see so many corporate citizens step up in support of our campaign against Glenn Beck," said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. "Their action sends a clear a message to Glenn Beck: Broadcasters shouldn't abuse the privilege they enjoy by spewing dangerous and racially charged hate language over the air. No matter their political affiliation, hate language doesn't belong in our national dialogue."

In an email exchange with ColorOfChange.org, Lisa Svac Hawks, Director of Public Relations for Best Buy, stated that any advertisements for Best Buy that were placed on Glenn Beck's show were done so in error. Svac Hawks pledged that Best Buy will correct any mistakes made.
In a NYTimes article about Beck's loss of sponsors, Fox said they aren't losing money from it.
"The advertisers referenced have all moved their spots from Beck to other day parts on the network, so there has been no revenue lost," said a spokeswoman for the channel, a unit of the News Corporation.
