ExpressJet apologizes for night of tarmac hell

ExpressJet Holdings made a public apology Thursday to the passengers that were forced to stay on a plane for six hours on the tarmac with no food, overflowing toilets, and crying babies.

The plane carrying 47 passengers was diverted to Rochester on its way to Minneapolis-St. Paul International due to weather conditions. They were stuck on the tarmac until 6 a.m. before officials let them sit in the terminal.

ExpressJet originally claimed they couldn't let the passengers off into the terminal because all the security personnel had gone home for the night. Rochester airport officials fought back, saying they offered to let the passengers stay in the terminal in a secure area until a new flight was scheduled.

ExpressJet was operating the Continental flight that night. Officials apologized for the "extended delay of flight 2816, which did not meet Continental's service standards," according to the Star Tribune report.

The company is reviewing the incident and is providing details to the Department of Transportation, which is investigating.
