The city of Minneapolis says the Wednesday tornado that struck unexpectedly toppled 250 trees on public property.

That number doesn't include any trees on private property surrounding homes. Those numbers have yet to be released. The American Red Cross says 40 residences in south Minneapolis had some damage.

The city's Public Works and Park Board will continue to collect any large debris through Wednesday for any properties between 2nd Avenue South and Columbus Avenue South, from 35th to 52nd Streets. This cleanup is for residents who are cleaning up their properties without the help of contractors.
