State Fair enters the twitterverse

Cheese curds? Check. Midway tickets? Check. Friends and followers? Check. After a dip into the social media universe last summer with Facebook, the Minnesota State Fair has now entered the twitterverse, folks.

Brienna Schuette, who handles public relations for the great Minnesota get together, and a colleague plan to update the fair's Twitter page and Facebook page all day, each day, of the fair's 12-day run.

And while she plans to tweet promotions and savings, Schuette says she wants to do more than just PR.  Where can you find alligator sausage on a stick? When does Garrison Keillor hit the Grandstand stage? Where does the marching band competition start? Post your questions to @minnstatefair and watch for an answer -- in public. (Just don't bump into anyone while you're staring down at your iPhone or Blackberry.)

With about 1.6 million visitors expected, Schuette says she's sure you won't be the only one confused in the crowd. 

"We won't be able to answer every one of them," she says, but she promises to try. "It'll be tough to get everything out there in 140 characters or less."
