The 39-year-old victim of a tragic, fatal accident in St. Paul late Sunday night had plans for a better life.

Those plans ended when the car Moussa Ould Maayif was driving was struck by 20-year-old Jacqueline Marie Wagner, of New Brighton. Ramsey County has charged Wagner with criminal vehicular homicide.

Today, the Star Tribune describes the man who lost his life early Sunday morning:

A native of Mauritania in northwestern Africa, Maayif, 39, had recently been promoted at Boston Scientific, his ex-wife said Monday, and was studying for an MBA at the University of St. Thomas.

Still, he yearned for more, Shahidah Siraaj said, recalling their last conversation a few weeks ago, "something even more spiritual." He wanted to "give back," she said, and he was doing so by volunteering for a nonprofit group, Building Blocks.

According to the Strib, Wagner is devastated by what happened.
