Pawlenty suggests asserting state sovereignty in health care debate

​Gov. Tim Pawlenty is taking an interesting path in his position against health care reform. During a tele-town hall organized by the Republican Governors Association, Pawlenty said asserting state sovereignty would be a possibility to reject the bill in Minnesota.

A caller asked Pawlenty about asserting the Ten Amendment in order to reject the Democrat's proposed health care reform, particularly the public option. He said it was a "possiblity," according to Politico.

"Depending on what the federal government comes out with here, asserting the 10th Amendment may be a viable option but we don't know the details. As one of the other callers said, we can't get the other callers, we said we can't get the President to outline what he does or doesn't support in any detail. So we'll have to see, I would have to say that it's a possibility."

Pawlenty said he hopes Republican governors will use their power to hold up their state rights and sue the federal government too.
