Wis. mom kills infant daughter with methadone-laced formula, gets year in prison

Andrea Zalewski's daughter, Lola Lieb, died in October. It isn't clear why she laced the formula, but Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Jeffrey A. Conen said he believes Zalewski thought the drug would calm her baby. Zalewski was fighting an addiction to methadone when she gave birth to her daughter, who was also born addicted to the drug.
She pleaded guilty in June to the crime, which was punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Not only was Zalewski a real winner of a mother when she killed her baby, she apparently thought she could continue being a good mother after the crime. The judge said he learned she had become pregnant again while the case was pending, but she had ended that pregnancy. She already has a 7-year-old son.
Family members said Zalewski had a number of problems and had struggled with "anorexia, depression, fibromyalgia, stunted maturity, addictions, and other psychological problems."

The story pisses me off, but the title of this blog pisses me off even more. It's irrelevant to the story to ask the reader the question "What's wrong with Wisconsin?" When you could have just as easily asked "What's wrong with the United States", or "What's wrong with White People?"
Posted On: Tuesday, Sep. 22 2009 @ 11:01AMthis is a good thing. that baby would have grown up to be a waste of taxpayer dollars after she dropped out of middle school to sell poor quality meth. she'd probably turn into a crack head, necrophiliac, transvestite prostitute by the time she was 18, and have AIDS by age 21, and start leeching welfare to fund her intravenous drug habits. meanwhile mom would discard the methadone and start blasting speedballs (meth+heroin). mom would end up in the loony bin (e.g. Requiem for a Dream) and the daughter would overdose either trying to freebase bleach or huffing the fumes of her own feces (also known as jenkem). it would be a rollicking good time for all!

The reason the story is correctly subtitled, "Whats Wrong with Wisconsin" is that after the atrocities this young woman committed--the state of Wisconsin awarded her ONLY ONE YEAR behind bars.

She only got a year because of sexual discrimination in the court system. Women are hardly ever convicted to the same extent as men. Sad, but true ... the justice system has yet to live up to gender equality. It's also sad that convictions against women are hardly pursued and the statistics of violence are skewed. Especially when it comes to sexual assaults.

Also, I saw a person brutally murdered in the street in broad daylight in one of the countries in the Carribean (was only there for a few weeks, obviously not vacation). I was held up at gunpoint a couple times in other places and had run-ins with very corrupt police.
None of that has ever happened to me in the US, even in the "bad parts".

Well, this poor baby victim is at peace. The mother has to live the rest of her life knowing (somewhere inside her) that she killed her own flesh and blood. Karma is a wonderful thing.
I also hope the angry responders were able to get some things off their minds.

WTF does it have to do with the fucked up crimes that she "blogs" about? There's messed up people in every state, including MN. It's all about how local media decides to report it.... Wisconsin media is notorious for reporting the most "extreme" stories which in turn get picked up by national media and make Wisconsin look like it's full of lunitics. Which it is..
