Skates, pads, sticks are first-come, first-served.

The stuff will be doled out from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Xcel Center, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. There are apparently more than 2,000 pieces of equipment up for grabs.

Anyone can get it. You don't even have to prove that you're poor. Here's more details from the Biz Journal on who's giving up the stuff:

The distribution follows a used hockey equipment collection drive led by the Minnesota Wild, Let's Play Hockey and Minnesota Hockey. There also will be some new equipment.

Sponsors and partners for the program include Berger Transfer, Boehm's, Fox Sports North, the Herb Brooks Foundation, Let's Play Hockey, Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association, Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Association, Minnesota Hockey, Minnesota Ice Arena Managers Association, Minnesota Wild, Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League, Warrior Hockey and Westwood Sports.

The Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League donated used gear to the drive, while Warren, Mich.-based equipment maker Warrior Hockey donated new gear. Boehm's hockey shops in St. Paul and Mendota Heights provided cleaning for the donated equipment.
