Michele Bachmann action figure not selling

When a Connecticut toy company came out with a Sarah Palin action figure last year during the height of her vice presidential run, 10,000 of the dolls were sold in 24 hours. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann's action figure isn't enjoying quite as much success during the political off-season, reports Minnesota Public Radio. Since the Bachmann toy's debut on September 25, it has sold just 50 units, according to HeroBuilders, the toy company that sells the novelty dolls of Bachmann, Palin, and other pop political figures.

"I'll tell you this, she's no Sarah Palin," the CEO of HeroBuilders, Emil Vicale, is quoted as saying, although he believes the dolls will sell eventually.

Discounting, for the moment, that the action figures look only vaguely like their real-life subjects, part of the problem with the Bachmann action doll may be that the most interesting thing about Minnesota's 6th District congresswoman isn't her actions but her words. HeroBuilders might sell more of the things if they came out with a talking version. When you pull a string, the Bachmann doll could say things like:

"In some ways, to believe in evolution is almost like a following--a cult following."

"If gay marriage goes through ... K-12 little children will be forced to learn that homosexuality is normal, natural, and perhaps they should try it."

Or maybe:

"We're running out of rich people in this country."
