Minnesota's "pending political crisis"

In the past years, every Minnesota political news story, it seems, includes a quote from U of M professor Larry Jacobs. Right or wrong, the director of the Institute of Policy and Governance at the Humphrey Institute is considered something of a political oracle, or at least someone who can put all the political hee-hawing in perspective.

Which is why his assessment of the future of Minnesota's budgetary and political landscape is particularly sobering. Jacobs sees a state whose budget is pretty much fucked beyond repair, thanks to a less-than-upfront, hyper-partisan political class.

"Both the governor and legislature have used budget gimmicks to hide a massive structural deficit... plus, you have the stimulus money running out, and that's going to pull the rug out for both parties."
