Better believe it: St. Cloud is one of 10 finalists in a worldwide search for the most livable city. Please hold your heart attack or laughter for later.

St. Cloud is competing against cities with populations of 20,000 to 75,0000 people in the annual LivCom Awards. Annapolis, Md., is the only other U.S. city in this category.

Here is their competition worldwide:
  • ANNAPOLIS, USA
  • CANADA BAY, Australia
  • CHRUDIM, Czech Republic
  • EGER, Hungary
  • JIHLAVA, Czech Republic
  • MLADA BOLESLAV, Czech Republic
  • NEWARK-ON-TRENT, England
  • OSTROW WIELKOPOLSKI, Poland
  • TABOR, Czech Republic
We didn't realize the Czech Republic was such a wonderful place. Note: the awards are chosen in the Czech Republic. Coincidence?

The judges are looking for cities "doing the most to enhance and protect their landscape and heritage, while promoting environmentally sensitive practices, healthy lifestyles and community sustainability."

St. Cloud's mayor is on his way to the Czech Republican this afternoon to rally for his city. St. Cloud tied for the most livable city in 2007.

Our one dying question: Have these judges ever seen or been to St. Cloud? How about in the dead of winter? Seriously. That place can't be considered livable to anyone.

And if that wasn't enough, the author of "The Absolutely Worst Places to Live in America" called St. Cloud full of "dazed and ill-prepared college students," "mall rats" and "obese buffet grazers... If the endless below-zero winter doesn't kill you, St. Cloud's soul-killing culture of sheer hopelessness surely will."
